
National strike in Peru against Dina Boluarte’s government
Ruptly is live from Lima on Thursday, January 19, where a national strike is taking place against the government of President Dina Boluarte.
The General Confederation of Workers of Peru called on “the working class and the Peruvian people to actively participate in the Great National, Civic and Popular Strike."
The largest trade union in the country is calling for the resignation of Boluarte and immediate elections. It follows a wave of protests across the country, which began in December with the removal by Congress of then-president Pedro Castillo.
