
Italy: 'The greatest artist in the world' - Locals and relatives bid farewell to film legend Gina Lollobrigida
Locals and relatives gathered in Rome on Wednesday for the funeral chapel of Italian film legend Gina Lollobrigida.
Lollobrigida became one of the post-World War II era's first major European actresses. She died on January 16 in Rome, aged 95.
The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, paid tribute alongside the actress's only son, Andrea Milko Skofic Junior, her grandson, Dimitri Skofic, and Francisco Javier Rigau, her ex-husband.
A group of Bersaglieri, marksmen in the Italian Army's infantry corps, also attended.
"She has uniquely represented Italy when it was a country that was reborn. She has made Italian cinema known throughout the world", said Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri.
The actress's funeral will be Thursday, January 19, in the morning at the Church of the Artists in Rome.
